Mexico & Brazilian Wax

**WARNING ... this post may contain TMI for those of you who know me IRL, so beware!**

In less than one month J and I will be sunning ourselves in Cabo San Lucas. We very much deserve this vacation as we haven't been on one since right before we began our TTC journey. I am currently tanning, which I absolutely hate, but have to because of my fair skin. While getting my hair highlighted and cut tonight I talked to my stylist about bikini waxing. I have always wanted to have a Brazilian wax and figured this is just the time to try it, so I made an appointment for a Brazilian wax in a few weeks. I'm not at all nervous about exposing my girly parts because after almost 5 years of IF it seems as though everyone's been down there! However, I'm mildly nervous about the potential pain. My stylist claims it doesn't hurt, but I can't imagine that it won't. So, have any of you had a Brazilian wax and if so how was it? Please be brutally honest ... I need to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly.

(Edited to remove potentially offensive words b/c J thought I was sharing way TMI. I figure that this is my space and I shouldn't have to censor it, but I did. I'm a biologist and don't mind using certain words that apparently might make others uncomfortable, especially some of my relatives who may read my blog.)

Nope, haven't scared me away!:) I, too, would love to hear how it goes. I have always wanted to have one, but never have. GL!

I had one! The waxing of the labia didn't hurt, but surprisingly the front patch of the pubic area was painful. My esthetician warned me of this so I was ready yet won’t have it done again. I will stick to my bikini waxes.

First of all, I want to say that I can only imagine how hard it was to pass the anniversary of Myles' death. I hope that sharing his beautiful life with others through the blog has helped with the healing process. I feel grateful to have "known" Myles through you. Huge hugs, as I know this is a really hard time.

Secondly, I'm really glad you are headed for a vacation...we went for a vacation at the end of the first trimester and it was like a wonderful celebration of where we had gotten finally. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy and relax. Can't wait to hear about the u/s!

What time is this appointment??
Advice: Have any of those pain pills laying around or can you take a shot of vodka?

Seriously, it's not that bad, you've certainly gone through worse but hey, the above can certainly help!

I find the talk refreshing my dear. ;-) Haven't had one since I'm too chicken-shit. I swear the stylist out when she does my eyebrows, I can't imagine what I'd call her with the who-haw wax.

OUCH. Ouch, ouch, ouch! I haven't had one, but OUCH. OTOH, I may be willing to wax anything if it would get me to Cabo ;).

Will J be participating in the waxing ritual by getting one of his very own? I didn't think so ;).

I too have been curious. I hate shaving every other day and getting my brows done doesn't hurt at all so maybe it won't be so bad.

Let me know how it goes, I might just make an appt. myself!

I'm a licensed cosmetologist and I have seen a brazilian wax along with the sphinx being done. The women who got them done were in utter pain. I have not had one done myself, so I do not want to scare you, I'm just going off of observations. I did "try" to give myself a bikini wax and after one strip I couldn't take anymore. I do know, that with any waxing, it hurts less and results are better if your hair, (wherever the region) is really no more than 1/4 inch long. My advice, take some ibuprofen about an hour before the appointment and if it does happen to hurt, waxing's over pretty quick anyway right? Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Oh, yes I have!! I get everything waxed, kinda an addict I think!! Legs, underarms, eyebrown...bikini. And it DOES hurt. Underarms and eyebrown no more. Legs sometimes. And bikini, especially Brazillian, ALWAYS!!

Sorry. The truth hurts. And so does staying pretty!! Great to hear you're going away though!! woohoo!!!!

Oh honey, head on over to my blog and read about my adventure with the brazilian wax. I posted it a few days ago. There are 2 waxing posts back to back entitled "To wax or not to wax" and "The post in which I shame myself". Be warned, I held nothing back and it wasn't pretty.

First, Thank you for sharing your days with Myles and your loss with us. He was very lucky to have you as his mom, even though he was with you for far too long.

As for brazilians, I have had it done twice, and at least for me it was pretty painful. Go somewhere where they do it all the time and can at least make it fast. Supposedly, if you get it done regularly it hurts less over time, but i'm not sure if that's true.

Crack me up with the edit! I'm dying to know what it said now :)

No great insight to add here - I've only had a "regular" binkin wax - then I just shaved the middle. It worked well for me, and I have no motivation to take the next step. But good luck - and tell us all about it :) - if you do!

Looks like you and I are going on vacation round about the same time...I'm heading to South Carolina though. So excited!!!

I too am getting my hair highlighted and will start tanning in another week. I'm not going to wax till just a few days before.

K, I have never done brazillian but I have done pretty close, and I'm sorry but it's freaking the worst pain you could imagine. Have you ever had anything waxed before?? Times it by 20. The bikini area is bad, the labia is worse, and the front pubic bone area brought tears to my eyes each and every time. I'm bad though, I shave in between waxings so the hair never gets softer, I know when I don't shave between sessions the pain is less, but those first few times after shaving, the hair is course and thick which makes waxing dreadful.

I also do my armpits, legs and eyebrows, armpits are also bad the first 2 times, legs it hurts but it's manageable.

I wish you all the best of luck. What helped me was some Tylenol just before, and them having a cold cloth on hand to put on right after the rip the strip. Oh, I got butterflies just thinking of going soon.

I am NOT getting a braz, I'll just go the really tight bikini which is like 1/2 braz.

Ack! You gotta update us after and let us know how it was! I've never had one, but am pretty curious because I imagine it's gotta hurt.

And good for you and J for taking a vacay! You guys both deserve it! I just wish I could be sitting there next to you on the beach!

Not painful, and I think once most go there they never go back. I think allot of people do leave a strip.. but totally up to you..

The part that shocked me haha was when she flipped me over and said she do the back half! I was like WWWHAT??!

Have a great trip and let us know how things go..

Have a wonderful vacation. Your blog is beautiful and articulate. Best of luck in a very uneventful 9 and smooth 9 months.

Just reread my comment - and I said exactly THE OPPOSITE of what I meant - that Myles was lucky to have you as his mom, even if he was with you for far TOO SHORT of a time. I'm hoping you knew what I meant to type, but geez. I apologize.

First of all thanks for the coment on my blog. :-)
Now on yours...I have had all of me waxed at different times and the brazilian does hurt. I never found that legs or face hurts but underarms is tender. But down there...it hurts. of course it depends also on your pain tolerance level. Hope you have a fab time on your vacay.

I haven't had one but often wondered about getting one!
And you are right, after going through IF stuff, you get used to people touching your woo ha!

Thinking about you and your appt. Monday!! Can't wait to hear all about it.

I am late to this post, but I am a lurker on your blog, and I am so incredibly happy for you and this new journey you are on.

That being said, go for the wax! I am a vet...I even had one a week before I gave birth. It really is not that bad. Take a couple advil an hour before you go and breathe deep. The first "swipe" is uncomfortable but after that it is no biggie! And afterward you feel like a sex kitten! Have fun ;)
