It's me K...

bored out of my mind on bed rest (but so not complaining because I know many of you did it for much longer then I'll have to even if I make it to 38 weeks).

Here's my update, I'm home, chillaxin as I call it and I cannot help but wonder about when these babies will come, so I'm just asking all of you twin mom's out there, how many of you were dilated to 4 and on bed rest, and how long did you make it before the babies came? Also feel free to share with me how your twin labor started! I thank you in advance for the entertainment!

It has been fun seeing Niki and J get so excited this week, and makes me remember why I chose to do this! I'm certain they are going to be remarkable parents to these boys!

I wish I had something to tell you - and I am glad that you are doing this little poll as I will love to know all this kinda stuff when it is our turn.

Sorry to hear that the bedrest is boring your crazy, you need to get some good books! Or rent a whole TV series to occupy your time (6 feet under, big love, sopranos, lost are all fabulous long ones!).

you are doing great, and I know how appreciative Niki is!

I was a csection for my twins, but I did walk around at 4 cm dilated with an almost 9 lb singleton for about 5 weeks before they finally induced me :)

Hang in there. I went on bedrest at 20 weeks and my boys came at 36w3d. I was at a 2 for two weeks before my boys, but that was far as I got. I was super achey and crampy the day I went into labor. Contractions came on starting 16 minutes apart and within a few hours were 6 minutes apart. Good luck to you. And I must say this gift you are giving is just amazing. Rent some good movies or rent a TV series. Sex in the City, Weeds, Desperate Housewives, something fun and entertaining.

My darling daughters are 17 now. I was on bedrest for 3 weeks. They were 6 weeks early. Jacqueline (Baby A) was 5pounds 6ounces Jessica (Baby B) 4pounds 2ounces. I had to have an amnio to make sure their lungs were developed enough to have them this was when I was dilated to 2 I got to go home. 2 days later I walked into the hospital after my water broke dilated to 7. I had a total of 2 and a half of hours of labor. They were born at 9:56am & 10:04am On Oct 30, 1992 with out any pain meds and were great amazing little girls. They did have to stay in the hospital for a bit but just to grow as they went down to 4pound 5 ounces and 3pounds 6 ounces. They took to breastfeeding with no problem and when I got to bring them home about 2 weeks for Jackie and 3 weeks for Jessica. They are still tiny little girls both 5feet 3 inches and weigh about 100 pounds dripping wet but they are amazing and wonderful and what you are doing is an amazing thing. You are all so blessed and all I can say is enjoy every second it all goes so quick.

Keep up the great work K, you are AMAZING!!!! I was on modified bedrest w/ my daughter for about 4 weeks before I was induced, but I was only 1cm dilated when I was put out for blood pressure issues. I hope they stay in maybe another week or two.

K, what you are doing is amazing! I'm sure you know that whenever you look at Niki and see the joy in her eyes. Hope bedrest doesn't bore you too much. I imagine it must be tough. Your rewards are coming!

No similar story here unfortunately :( The day I went to the hosptial for abdominal pain (34w5d) they said I was 2cm dilated and tried to send me home, but after u/s the next morning I had a c-section on the spot.

No advice on the boredom that hasn't been given. I'd personally watch 24 if put on bedrest, love that series.

I was dilated to 1cm and 75% effaced at 26 weeks and was put on strict bedrest at that point. I was allowed up to go to the bathroom and that was it.

I was dilated to 2cm and 90% effaced by 30-31 weeks. Still on strict bedrest. Then at 36 weeks when I was taken off of bedrest, I was 3cm and 100% effaced. From that point forward, I didn't change at all until my water broke and the girls were delivered at 37w2d.

They were so anxious to make an arrival and then once they got the green light, they decided they would rather stay put. So you just never know! I thought for sure at 3cm and 100%, that they would come shortly after being taken off bedrest...but they had other plans and hung on for another 9 days!!! Maybe boys are different. ;)

K, I have no twin tales to share. I will say that the gear change from working to bed rest is fairly breathtaking and once you settle in you will be fine.
I don't know how you've worked for this long, I think it is incredible.
TV has gotten me through. If you like thrillers I loved Spooks which I think might be called MI-5. Very engaging.

I went on bedrest with our b/g twins at 11w, following a cerclage. At 20 weeks, my bedrest was transferred to the hospital. I had a few bouts of labor that were stopped with water and hydrating IVs, but then, on 27w5d, I had labor that couldnt be stopped and had an emergency c-section. Bobby weighed 2lb13oz and Maya weighed 2lb5oz. They were in the NICU for 9 weeks. They were born in September and at 3 months old assessed at birth age. They are now moving towards 5 months old, weigh 13lb and 10lb respectively, eat bottle and babyfood, are teething, and Maya can roll over and is starting to crawl (Bobby... not interested yet!)

Good luck!

Not a twin veteran but did 21 weeks of bedrest! I sent DH's hiney to the library for all my favorite books. Read the entire Amelia Peabody Mystery series again. Watched lots of DVD's on my laptop and listened to music.

Do you scrapbook at all? I had a friend who got caught up on her scrapbooking while on bedrest.

You are amazing K!

Hi K,
I was on strict bedrest starting at 26w, dilated to ~3cm starting at 28w accompanied by a preterm labor scare, then at 33w I was at 5cm and the magnesium was the only thing holding off contractions. Once we stopped the mag at 33w3d, I resumed labor a few hours later with escalating contractions, and one of the waters breaking sent me into full-blown labor. They were born by C-section (baby B was breech) a few hours later at 33w4d. They're now almost 4 months old and doing fantastic.

I watched several entire TV series on DVD or Hulu while I was in the hospital. The magnesium and nifedipine were also helpful for passing the time, since they made me so tired that I slept more than half the day. I also did most of the year's taxes (though didn't quite finish before they were born and had to finish when they were in the NICU), which I don't recommend but has to be done at some point so might as well do them when you're stuck in one place.

Good luck! You're doing a great job!

Congrats on making it so far with those boys. I was never put on bedrest and actually never had a cervix check either (I'm pretty sure that was a bad thing). My twin boys were born at 35wks 3days. So if you make it as far as I did you only have 4 days left! And they didn't even spend a minute in the NICU.

My labor started with my water breaking. I ended up with a C-section though. I must have been in labor before my water broke though as I was 6cm when they checked me at the hospital. But I really didn't feel much at all.

You are such a wonderful and amazing person to be doing this. Can't wait to see those miracles.

You are doing a great job! I never made it that far with my twins. I had them at 32 weeks via emergency c-section. Keep up the great work!

Librivox.org has tons of audiobooks - maybe that could help keep you occupied.

My twins were born at 35w 1d and I never went into labor officially. I was dilated to 2cm for about a week and a half with nothing. Sorry!!

I wish I could help you. My twins were cut out of me at 38 weeks because my blood pressure was spiking during a NST. Otherwise, they would have been in until my scheduled C at 39 weeks.

I have survived 17 weeks of bedrest (first pregnancy) and 7 weeks of bedrest (2nd pregnancy, but 4th child:). Tips get into a schedule TV shows at a certain time, surf the web certian time, phone calls another time...it really does help. Find an online resource with other moms on bedrest...they understand more than anyone else what you are going through.

Hugs,

Ann Marie
