One brown spot

K called me and left a voicemail and then emailed saying to call her, which immediately made me worried. When I called her K informed me that she was worried last night that she might be having a miscarriage because she'd been having some cramping, but no bleeding. She said this morning it felt like her period was on it's way (not really painful cramping). She went to the bathroom and inspected the tp this morning (yep we've had a bad influence) and she saw a tiny, brown spot. Wiped again and nothing. Late last week the RE lifted the pelvic rest restrictions, so K and her dh took advantage of this last night.

K called her ob who explained to her that this was all normal and that she shouldn't worry. He even told her that I'd know and probably wouldn't be too concerned. Suprisingly I wasn't really all that worried. I didn't panic and actually breathed a huge sigh of relief when I heard K telling me about what had happened. This is SO unusual for me! I'm normally the one who completely freaks out about the smallest of things. I guess I remember the early pregnancy cramping and remember how I was always worried about it too. I know that brown is old blood. I also know that intercourse can cause bleeding in early pregnancy because of the highly vascular nature of the cervix. I know that bleeding with an IVF pregnancy is common. Plus, I just have a calm feeling, so I'm not worried and really don't want K to worry either. Please reiterate to K that all is likely well with the "blueberry".

Ohh, I know how scary this can be! I had this with this pregnancy, after DTD the first few times, but it was MUCH more than just a little spotting. As I was told, and as Niki said, it's very common and unfortunately (or fortunately?) very normal! I had period-like cramps for the first 10 weeks of this pregnancy...its amazing how we can look at every move we make so much differently when pregnant. And, I must admit I am super proud of Niki and her calmness, way to go! :)

As hard as it it, I wouldn't worry either. I did have a tiny little brown "spot" when I was about 8 weeks and it didn't work me up too much because as you said, "brown means old". (I did get checked out though, but no worries). And, my stomach for the most part always felt like I was going to get my period. So much stretching and all sorts of good stuff is going on down there that pains are gonna happen. I can more than see though why K would be worried. This little "blueberry's" gonna be just fine.

I had the same thing happen around 8 weeks--one brown spot a few times during the course of a week. All continues to be well with this babe, now 20 weeks along and kicking every day.

Totally normal!! Hang in there, K. Blueberry is thriving inside of you! :)

I bet that was scary - I hope K is doing okay now.

I would have been proud and supportive of you even if you would have freaked out.

The blueberry is kicking ass and taking names.

Wow Niki...I am amazed at your composure, and I had to laugh at K becoming a veteran tp inspector!
I am sure all is fine with the Blueberry. Continued hugs, love, good thoughts and prayers being sent your way.

I just found your blog through. My husband and I went through ART for 4 yrs w/o a succesful pregnancy. We adopted our son from Korea last June. I think if I do ART again it would be through surrogacy. That is wonderful that someone in your life is your surrogate.

I am reaching out to my fellow bloggers to introduce my non profit, Parenthood for Me.org. Our mission is to provide financial and emotional support to those starting families through adoption or medical intervention. Please visit our website and blog and pass the link on. Thank you for your support. I look forward to reading your blog and I wish you and K well.
Sincerely,

That scared me for a second! I know nothing about being knocked up, but, I hear that it's normal, glad that everything is ok.

From what I understand a tiny bit of blood is a good sign, it's implantation bleeding and since it's "old" blood it will come out as brown. Sometimes it can take weeks for the blood to come out and other times it comes out right away and is red.

Most of us don't see implantation bleeding with regular pregnancies cause we equate it to our periods coming..but with IVF we know what to look for and what not to, usually, and so we're investigating every little sign.

I had bleeding twice with the twins, about a week apart coupled with tons of cramping, and once with my last surro babe. Mine was red then brown spotting, but everything was all good.

Your on your way to a healthy little bean!

Hi there!!
I am a member of Soulcysters and you were in my IVF buddy group when I became pregnant in December...I still go to the buddy group and saw your blog.....I just wanted to say congrats to you and your hubs!!!
I just wanted to reassure you and K that everything is fine and its totally normal to have this going on...I had it at 6 and 9 weeks and of course I got worried but turned out these brown spots were just the inner body "making room" for baby....
Heres to 7 months of a great pregnancy!!!
Christy :-)

Yes, I am sure everything is fine. I am 2 weeks ahead of K and I have been having brown spotting for weeks. I have called the RE several times and they are not concerned all all. They said it was very normal and brown blood is old. When is the next u/s? Keeping everything crossed for you!

I have a close friend who actually got a full blown period each month when she was pregnant. She has 3 normal (well, depending on who you ask) children! Hang in there - both of you! You are such strong, brave women.
